As we approach the birth of our new baby, I'm getting nervous and feel like this is the first time I'm becoming a mom. I can't remember how to swaddle a baby, soothe gas, when to start the bottle, what the different color stools mean, how to carefully change a newborn, how often they should be fed, bathed, changed, etc. I wish I had taken better notes. Maybe it will all come back to me once the new one has arrived - I HOPE! However, there are some things I've learned with Will that I don't think I'll forget. For example, this morning...
I heard Will wake up and start to play around in his bed. I took that as my cue to start getting myself ready and take advantage of the few minutes for which he is content. 5 minutes later I wander into his room to find him covered in Vics Vaporub. When I say, "Will, what did you do?" His response, "Mommy, can you flip over my pillow?" Because, hey, the only problem he sees is that the top of his pillow was filled with Vics Vaporub. I couldn't possibly get mad or irritated at him for this. I am the one who left the Vics on his nightstand for a month. Also, he called it medicine for his ouies...and ironically Vics looks just like the vasoline we put on his eczema.
So, lesson #1 that I am putting in print for reference when baby #2 hits toddlerhood: No matter if it's been sitting within reach but untouched for over a month, do not trust a 2 year old with a messy substance. Video of Will and Vics Vaporub to come later...
